What is a plant-based lifestyle?
A plant-based lifestyle is a fun, feel good and super positive way of living which can dramatically improve your long-term health and wellbeing, all while benefiting the environment and preventing animal cruelty. It's about taking control of your health, becoming the master of your temple and understanding what your mind, your body and your soul need to live a balanced life of happiness and longevity.
A plant-based diet is about eating the rainbow in naturally grown foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. Basically, a diet based on foods derived from plants but with no animal products. The health benefits of living off these foods are truly phenomenal! Most people absolutely thrive and experience exceptional, life-changing health. When I first transitioned into eating only plants (mostly raw fruit and vegetables) I noticed a remarkable difference in my body. I went from feeling bloated and tired with skin break outs and a weak immune system to an increase in energy, stronger immunity, clearer skin, significantly improved digestion, stronger hair and nails, nil sugar cravings and an over all feeling of better health than I had ever experienced before. Why a plant-based diet?
Our bodies are made up of trillions of tiny cells that all require electrical energy from the right fuel to survive. When we feed these cells acidic-forming or toxic foods, we're not obtaining the correct nutrients to strengthen and function as we should. In fact, most of these foods are extremely harmful, destructive, taxing and lead to an acidic environment in the body called Acidosis. When the body is in this state, it will destroy good healthy cells and tissue, cause malnutrition, inflammation and create a vulnerable environment for illness and disease. Foods that leave an alkalising ash, such as raw fruits and plants on the other hand, have the complete opposite effect. These are the foods that will strengthen, repair, alkalise, nourish and provide optimal health and vitality in the human body. The highest nutritional foods on this planet are raw fruits, vegetables, herbs, seaweeds, nuts and seeds which are all packed with powerful nutrients; vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, simple sugars and so much more. These are the foods that are biologically suited for our species.
All other animals on this planet eat intuitively. They eat the way nature intended them to eat. They teach their children to do the same and most of them don't suffer the serious health problems we're faced with in the world we live in today. As a society, I feel we have lost a huge amount of our own intuitiveness and now eat primarily what society teaches us to eat. We follow what is in the media and sold in supermarkets and indulge in 'food' that is usually only sold for financial gain, at the expense of our own personal health. This has contributed to an epidemic of disease which is expanding at a scary rate. The states in the US for developing cancer are now 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 woman. This is outrageous. I personally believe we need to go back to common sense, follow our instincts and think carefully about every single thing we choose to put in our mouths. There are hundreds of different plants and fruit trees that have all grown naturally for over thousands of years. These plants just so happen to digest in our bodies better than any other food on this planet and provide us with every nutrient needed to give strength, vitality and allow us to live a long, balanced and healthy life. For me personally, this is the food I believe was put on this earth for humans to eat. And this is why I choose to live off plants.
Other factors to consider..
Plant-based living is also about what we put on our skin and the products we use in our household. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, or other wise known as the third kidney. It will effectively absorb every single product applied to it, directly into the bloodstream. This is something I overlooked for years and ignored when purchasing cosmetics, skincare and house hold cleaners. Most of these products are full of toxic and harmful chemicals that become extremely detrimental to our health when we are exposed to them. We wouldn't eat these products, so why breath them in and use them on our skin?! We're already exposed to many carcinogens in our environment that we have no control over, but we do have control over what we choose to bring into our homes and what we use on our skin. There are now many different natural plant-based alternatives to skincare and household cleaners available but of course the more minimalistic we learn to become, the better.
How do I transition to a plant-based diet?
Taking control of your health is truly the greatest gift! It's an empowering feeling surrounded in so much positivity! Eating raw food straight from our earth made sense to me in so many ways and I found that once I began to improve my health through this holistic approach, I couldn't help but try to improve all other aspects of my life. I believe it's not about what we do once in awhile but about what we do everyday that will determine the long-term positive or negative effects on our health. Our bodies are our vehicles while living on this planet so it is vital that we look after them. Just as we would choose the correct fuel for our car, it is imperative we do the same for our body.

The hardest part to anything is the beginning... just taking that first step, that first day into the unknown and breaking those hard to shake old habits! But once you begin, once you complete that first day, week and then month, you'll never look back! Trust me, I've been there!
